Celebrity chef Ali Said to wed soon

CELEBRITY chef Ali Said Mandhry is set to quit the bachelors’ club this month.

Ali is all set to say “I do” to his ‘love-at-first-sight’ girlfriend Khadija, a degree holder in Creative Arts from a Yemeni university. According to a close family member to the renown chef who sought anonymity, the couple is said to have met just once and fell in love.

“This is going to be one of the most interesting Swahili weddings we have ever come across. The two lovebirds met just once, liked each other and right away started on planning for their nuptials. The wedding arrangements are on top gear and Ali’s side of the family is hands on the plans,” she told Word Is.

The wedding is scheduled to take place at Mombasa’s Konzi Mosque on August 30 with the reception going down at the Islamic Centre. Several bigwigs including Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, senator Hassan Omar, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, artiste Wyre and comedian Churchill are among those expected to attend the event.

Ali, who is currently working on a TV cookery show to be aired soon on a local channel, said during a phone interview: “It does not matter how long we have been dating or met. I believe she is the right person to

spend the rest of my life with. In fact, her career fits mine so we will be working as a team.”

Mombasa cops pose for photos with TZ artiste after arrest.

AFTER popular Tanzanian musician Tundaman was arrested in Mombasa last week, questions have emerged regarding whether the arrest was real or choreographed.

The Mapenzi Ya Dhiki famed artiste was arrested by the Kenyan police officers near the Nyali Bridge but what followed after the “arrest” has raised queries. Minutes after the arrest, his pictures emerged on social media as he posed with the officers. In the photos, the handcuffed artiste was seen in a clear pose with two police officers.

According to Tundaman, who in the past few days has had a series of shows in Likoni, Kilifi and Malindi, he was arrested for speeding and playing loud music. Speaking with Word Is, Tundaman claimed that the officers took him to Nyali Police Station but was never booked for the offenses. He was, however, bailed out by a Mombasa politician-cum-businessman.

  “They arrested me on a roadblock and was taken to the station, but I was not booked in,” he said.

On realising that the culprit was a popular musician, the officers allegedly became hyper and gave him an opportunity to take several pictures and video clips with them. Soon after, the media items went viral on social media and in Tanzanian newspapers.

The incident is said to have caused panic among the involved police officers.

Kisauni DCIO Joseph Kioko said he was not aware of any such arrest or pictures of his officers with the said artiste.

“I am not aware of the musician’s arrest or pictures of my officers going viral on social media. But we will follow up the matter,” he said.

Nyota denies torrid affair with rapper

Coast based songstress, Nyota Ndogo has come out to deny that she is locked in a hot torrid affair with rapper Kaa La Moto. The two were rumoured to have moved in together.

Nyota told Word Is, “Yes, Kaa La Moto has been staying in my house for two weeks now. I’m a grown woman and my work is music so I can’t be going out with young artistes and having romantic liaisons with them.”

A not so amused Nyota added, “We’re worried if this what our coastal musicians end up focusing on instead of channelling their creativity on developing their skills and talents.”

The Watu Na Viatu star is among the artistes selected to thrill fans during this year’s Denmark festival, the activities will be running for three weeks and she expected to jet out of the country this month.

Nyota is also working on a track dubbed Mapanya which is being recorded at Million Records Studio in Mtwapa the video of which will be shot in Voi and Tanzania.

Big Brother lovebirds at the coast ready for wedding

Former reality TV stars lovebirds are holidaying in Kenya as they prepare for their grand wedding in December. Big Brother: The Chase housemates Elikem Kumordzie and Pokello Nare are holed up at Sarova Whitesands Hotel in Mombasa.

The couple jetted into the country on August 5. Ghanaian housemate Elikem proposed to Pokello at an award ceremony in his country which was screened live on TV in May.

“This is going to be one of the best wedding ever, it will take place in two countries and many have so far been invited,” the elated couple told Word Is. The 28-year-old Zimbabewan TV presenter dismissed allegations that she is pregnant.

“You can’t plan or do away with love its nature, we real love each other very, very much. He treats me like a queen and no, I’m not pregnant , in fact I have an 11-year-old baby whom a real love taking care of,” said Pokello. The couple is staying in the premier room which goes for Sh 30,000 per day. They are set to jet out of the country on Sunday.
